Gardening with your child- It’s a season of digging in dirt, flowers, and bugs! Gardening offers so many science and math lessons as well as an opportunity for new vocabulary and best of all new foods to try that the children helped grow. As you begin to plan for a small or large garden your young child can help you with, keep some of these things recommendations from NAEYC in mind: • Know your stuff. Be smart about gardening before your small helper joins you. Do some research to find the best times to plant various crops in your area. (Safe bet for the Denver area is after Mother’s Day in May) Prepare your soil so it’s soft enough for your young child’s shovel and spade. Try to find a space that is mostly sunny and not too shady.
